Environmental Health officers were called to the Tesco Supermarket in Hertford following reports of a rat infestation last week.
It is unknown how many rats were found on the premises but it was enough to warrant a full investigation from Environmental Health. A spokeswoman from East Herts Council; who also attended the scene, confirmed that the incident had been investigated and the supermarket would be monitored moving forward to ensure that proper pest control measures are being enforced.
A representative from Tesco stated, “As soon as we noticed an issue, we took swift and effective action to deal with the problem. We have been working closely with our pest control contractor and the local environmental health department, who are satisfied with the steps we have taken.
“We would like to reassure our customers that this was in no way a risk to food safety and are sorry to our customers for any inconvenience caused.”
If you run a food business then commercial pest control contracts are always advisable. Regular checks and maintenance of pest control measures can prevent a problem before it arises.
